Welcome! I'm happy to meet you.
My name is David, and this is our third space, a little respite from the rest of the demands of our lives.
I'm a writer, and part of my passion is to notice the world, and find ways to share what I've seen with people who are curious. You will find some of my writing here, in my Monday Moanin' column, or find a sampling in my new book, Hope This Finds You, a collection I curated from over twenty years of past columns. If you enjoy what you read here, I promise you will love the book.

Take your time, find some things you enjoy reading. If you are interested in knowing more about me, you can read below. Otherwise, click here and travel right back to the essays.

I spend a good deal of my time here in Michigan looking for ways to enjoy each day. I am a long distance runner, with over sixty marathons under my belt, including seven Boston Marathons. I love the outdoors, and any day I can spend hiking, kayaking, or just enjoying a cold beer on a sunny deck, is a good day for me.

I enjoy reading, including my favorite authors, Wendell Berry, Amor Towles, John Steinbeck, Elmore Leonard, and Brian Doyle, just to mention a few.

My wife and I raised our four children here, and we are lucky to count two grandchildren already in our family. I'm grateful I get to see all of them on a regular basis.

I could go on about me, but I'd rather you explore what I've written about in the blog, or my book. I hope you enjoy reading it all as much as I've loved writing it.
